GV State Camp

On the 26th and 27th August over 70 IDP 1-3 gymnasts attend the second GV State Camp for the year.  Girls from various clubs attended the two day camp where several specialist coaches assisted the gymnasts and coaches in various areas.  Clubs that attended the camp were Balance, BTYC, MLC and VWHPC.

Day 1 of camp involved an IDEAL Testing day where the gymnasts were put through their paces and tested on all their skills.  At the end of the session each gymnast received a Camp T-shirt!  Parents were invited to view the testing day for the first time this year and were then given a workshop on healthy snacking for gymnasts by VIS Nutritionist Kylie Andrews.

Day 2 of camp involved a training session, where Senior Coach Michelle De highden and Choreographer Lisa Bradley shared their knowledge with the gymnast and coaches.  Lisa started the session off with an entertaining warm up with the kids and then took each group for some dance on floor, while Michelle assisted the groups on beam for some complex and then moved onto a few handstand and walkover skills.

At the end of the training session the girls all took part in a practical nutrition session, where they learnt about good foods that provide the best energy for gymnastics.  They all took part in making a healthy smoothie and they all had a chance to sample their creation upon completion.  The girls were given worksheets to complete and information packages to take home to their families.
